Sue Rodarte
November 17, 1941 - January 7, 2025
Like everything she did in life, Sue died with style on January 7, 2025.
Sue was born on November 17, 1941, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Bryan and Dixie Jordan. She moved to San Antonio four years later, in 1945, and spent the majority of her life here. Sue loved San Antonio and in her 32-year real estate career, she introduced countless new residents to the city and was one of the city’s best unofficial ambassadors.
A graduate of Alamo Heights High School, Sue attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, before transferring to and graduating from the University of Texas, Austin, with a major in mathematics and a minor in history. In 1963, she was a debutante presented by the German Club and a duchess in the Order of the Alamo's Court of Ages.
In 1967, she married Dr. Joseph Robert Rodarte and moved to Rochester, Minnesota, for her husband's fellowship and subsequent career at the Mayo Clinic. While there, Sue was a computer programmer at IBM before she owned and operated a fashionable women's clothing store. Sue returned to San Antonio with her daughter, Bettina, in 1981.
After returning to San Antonio, Sue worked at Satel's clothing store for several years before finding her real estate career with Phyllis Browning, where she was a top producer for many years. She was known for being fair and generous with her time and believed in always doing the right thing for her clients.

Sue's interest in history shaped her political views. She found it fascinating to study history in the making and explore the impact of the past on the present. Sue loved to play bridge and walk her dog; she also enjoyed the symphony, art museums and the theater. Later in life, she spent much of her time reading novels and doing puzzles - when the Spurs or UT Longhorns were not playing.

Sue enjoyed 46 years of sobriety as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. She was humbled to have been able to help a few other women become sober. She was an active board member and volunteer at Alpha Home for several years. She was also a proud Democrat and supporter of Planned Parenthood and Annie's List.

Sue cherished her family and friends more than anything. She was loyal, supportive and joyful. She was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, sister Ettie Lu Jordan, and brother William Bryan Jordan, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Bettina Rodarte; son-in-law, Ismael Delgado; and cherished grandson, Arnau. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Hearn-Rigney, and her nieces and nephews: William Henry "Trip" Worden, III (Jerry), Bryan Jordan Worden (Marianne), Karen Metcalfe (David), and Chrisinda Soard Livengood (Michael), as well as seven great-nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on January 15 at The Little Chapel behind Sunset Ridge Church in Alamo Heights. Donations in memory of Sue can be made to Alpha Home, the San Antonio Humane Society or the San Antonio Food Bank.
