Sherill Nicholson Harris embraced God on
November 27, 2010 at age
67. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Bill Harris, her
daughters, Kelly Lane and Kasey Gizelbach, and her grandchildren,
Bailey McNally and Evan Gizelbach. She was a counselor, educator,
and principal for some 25 years in the S.A.I.S.D. She was a member
of multiple academic honor societies, Later she taught classes at
University of Texas San Antonio, sold textbooks, and was a tax
preparer for a nationwide company. A lifelong San Antonio resident,
Sherill graduated from Highlands High School in 1960. She went on to
Trinity University, graduating Cum Laude, and received a B.A. in
Spanish, History, and secondary education in 1964. She received a
Master's degree from St. Mary's University in Counseling and another
in Education from UTSA. She was proud of having made all "A's"
throughout her schooling. She received countless awards and
recognition for her work in education and for volunteering her time
for tax preparation, delivering Meals on Wheels, working with
seniors through ACOG, and working with Bexar Kiwanis Club Children's
Charities. She taught well-attended classes at ALIR on Texas Parks,
First Ladies of the United States, and the wives of Henry XIII. An
accomplished lifetime tennis and bridge player, Sherill received
many accolades for each. Sherill's hobbies included reading,
participating in book clubs, bridge, tennis, golf, and gardening.
Sherill and her husband Bill traveled in every state in the
continental U.S. in their RV. A world traveler, Sherill and her
husband saw the globe many times over, hiking, rafting, and biking
wherever they could. She was a Texas Master Gardener & Master
Naturalist and spent one summer as a park ranger in a national park.
She wrote a book about the counties of Texas and North Carolina,
having visited, researched and photographed each one with her
husband's assistance.
