diverse, stimulating, and fulfilling Air Force life for the next 29
years. After training in Texas, they moved to California, South
Carolina, North Carolina, The Philippines, and back to Texas. In
California, she helped start a new pre-school and a Bridge Club.
While in Clemson, SC, at an ROTC assignment, she was the President
of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, represented the military wives in
civic organizations and was active in the local Episcopal Church.
After settling in the Philippines in 1968, she established a
contract bridge group at the Service Club for all base personnel and
directed all of the bridge activities. Returning to Pope AFB, NC in
1970 she held offices in the Officers' Wives Club, including
President. As President, she successfully petitioned the IRS to
grant the base thrift shop tax-exempt status. In 1976, they returned
to the Philippines. She resumed her role there as the Base Director
for the American Contract Bridge League's (ACBL) sanctioned games
and played golf regularly. During this assignment, they traveled to
India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. Returning to San
Antonio in 1978, she decided to go to work and became the Customer
Service Manager of O'Krent Fabrics for the next 17 years. After
retiring, she returned to her favorite entertainment -- Contract
Bridge and attained Bronze Life Master status. She was involved with
the Boysville Auxiliary for over 20 years, worked at the St. Mark's
Lenten Lunches and was elected to the San Antonio unit ACBL Board of

cancer over two years ago, she bravely and courageously lived her
life to the fullest. With their daughters and their families, they
traveled to New York during their 50th wedding anniversary year and
fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams -- to see the Statue of
Liberty!! She was always eager to visit family in Asheville and
Houston, see the shows at the Majestic and in Las Vegas, have New
Year's Eve at the Petroleum Club, enjoy Sunday Brunch at the Menger
Hotel, and go wherever there was a Bridge tournament. Her positive
attitude on life was never compromised!! She was my very best friend
and it is tough to lose your best friend!! We gratefully acknowledge
the kind, considerate and comforting care she received from the
