Gayle (Jo Gayle) Carter, 78, passed away
at Just Like Home Care, San Antonio,
Texas, after a long battle with cancer. |

She was born in Kerrville,
Texas on November 9, 1937 to
Carl and Estella
Chamberlain. She graduated
from Tivy High School in
Kerrville, Texas. She then
attended Schreiner
University, The University
of Texas, Austin, and Texas
Women's University. She
began her career at Exxon,
and then went on to work at
Southwest Research
Institute, where she retired
after over 30 years of
service. |

Jo Gayle had many interests,
especially traveling. She
visited places such as
Ireland and England. Her
interests also included
Duplicate Bridge, in which
she was a Life Master, and
even went on a Bridge cruise
to Alaska. She was playing
bridge with friends Chuck
and Lark Coggin one night,
when she was introduced to
Richard Dee Carter, who went
by his middle name, Dee.
This is the man that she
married on Valentine's Day
in 1976. Dee worked for the
Rand Corporation and
subsequently as a Math
teacher in the Harlandale
School District. They lived
their married life in San
Antonio, Texas. One year
later, their one and only
daughter, Suzanne Marie
Carter, was born. Suzanne
grew up and stayed in San
Antonio and works in Retail
Sales. Their interests
changed, and they divorced
after 19 years of marriage
in 1995. |

She was an avid reader and a
night owl, reading in her
Seventies until midnight
almost every night. She
especially enjoyed going to
the Guadalupe River in
Medina County. |

Jo Gayle was preceded in
death by her ex-husband Dee;
her parents, and sister
Carla. She is survived by
her sister, Phyllis Beach,
San Antonio, and daughter,
Suzanne, also of San
Antonio. |

A service was held at
St. Gregory the Great
Catholic Church on November 18,
2016. |
