Claudine
Schwetke Loyd, age 74, passed peacefully
in her home on February 13, 2021,
following a brief battle with cancer. |
|
A member of Coker United
Methodist Church, she was
also a member of the bell
choir at University
Methodist Church. |
|
Claudine was born in
Oklahoma City, OK., on
August 17, 1946, the only
child of Charles and Lilie
Mae Schwetke. She lived in
the Dallas area throughout
most of her youth, attending
Bryan Adams High School as a
member of the class of 1964.
She and her parents were
members of White Rock United
Methodist Church, where
Claudine was active in the
Methodist Youth Fellowship. |
|
Following high school
graduation, Claudine
attended the University of
Texas for two years and then
transferred to Oklahoma City
University, where she
graduated with a degree in
Political Science. |
|
Claudine was married to
Thomas Loyd, whom she had
known since high school.
During the marriage, due to
Thomas Loyd's Air Force
career, they lived in many
places overseas, including
Germany and the Middle East.
This was the beginning of
Claudine's lifelong love of
travel. |
|
Her later international
travel included Spain and
Russia, two of her favorites
among many places, as well
as a fairly complete
coverage of the United
States. A longtime baseball
fan, Claudine once set out
by herself upon a tour of
all the baseball stadiums in
the United States. |
|
Claudine's primary
profession was as a
Paralegal. However, as a
person with many varied
interests, she had other
occupations. One was as a
Docent in a history museum.
Another was as a Tour Guide,
in which she provided
tourists with a history of
San Antonio itself. Yet
another was as a provider of
closed-captioning for a
television station. |
|
Claudine's varied interests
last led her to the game of
bridge, where she started
taking lessons approximately
four years ago. She quickly
got bitten by the "bridge
bug" and was fascinated with
all the intricacies of the
game. |
|
Claudine is perhaps best
remembered among her many
friends for her
irrepressible sense of
humor. She was always
smiling and eager to laugh
as she traded humorous quips
with whoever she
encountered. That included
strangers, with whom she was
easily able to establish a
camaraderie because of her
happy and friendly way with
all people. |
|
Claudine Loyd will be missed
by all who knew her. |
|
A memorial service will be
held at 11am on Saturday,
February 27, 2021 at Coker
United Methodist Church, 231
E. North Loop Rd., San
Antonio, TX 78216. |
