Carolyn
Martin, who loved to travel, took her
last trip to be with her Lord on
Wednesday January 20, 2021. |
|
She was born in
Victoria, TX July 15th, 1933 to Marian and Gene
Traylor. When she was 14 her family moved to
Kerrville, TX where she attended Tivy High
School. It was there that she met the love of
her life, Nolan Martin, on her first day of
school. They were married and began their
beautiful life together in January of 1950. They
both graduated from the University of Houston in
1955. After graduating, Carolyn taught school
for a few years. By 1960 they had four children,
three boys and a girl. The boys were all very
involved in sports from Junior High through
college so for 20 years, she spent a lot of her
time shuffling schedules and attending games
along with shuffling her daughter to dance
lessons. Although she was very busy during that
time of her life, she cherished every second
watching her children do what they loved. In her
limited free time, she began teaching Sunday
school and that began a 15-year passion. From
that experience she wrote a manual for teachers
who taught 3rd through 6th grade Sunday School.
Between the 60's and 70's, Carolyn belonged to a
women's advanced educational study group, called
the Delphians, but said she lost interest the
year they began studying atoms and neutrons. For
30 years, she and Nolan traveled the world,
spending one month each year traveling. They
managed to visit all but one continent
(Antarctica) and made sure to bring home unique
gifts for all her children and grandchildren
from each trip. Carolyn was commissioned as a
Stephen Minister at Coker United Methodist
Church. She was also an avid bridge player,
getting her Bronze Life Master. Carolyn was
known as an "organizer" and would organize
"girlie trips" for her bridge friends to
different locations and enjoyed the fellowship
and bridge playing. For 63 years, she organized
their Tivy High school reunions in Kerrville
with many classmates traveling from all of the
US. |

Although Carolyn
achieved many roles outside of family, her
greatest achievement was being a mother,
grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her
family fiercely and gave the best kisses and
hugs to all of them. She organized family
vacations and hosted holidays at their home. As
the family grew, the house became more crowded,
and she loved every minute. She loved taking
pictures and documenting their time together.
She was also a wonderful friend and spent hours
talking on the phone to catch up and could often
be seen writing uplifting messages or making
friends and family laugh on Facebook. She was a
very loved Mimi. |

She was proceeded
in death by her parents and her sons Ronnie and
Brett. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 71
years, Nolan Martin. Her son Larry (Michele)
Martin, her daughter Melani Forks, 6
grandchildren Jehramy (Andrea) Forks, Carisa
(Cole) Clayton, Shaun (Amy) Forks, Meagan
Martin, Davy (Tanya) Forks and Kale Forks, her 8
great grandchildren, Ryland, Sydney, Addison,
Quinn, Cameron, Nolan, Caroline and Olivia, and
many friends. |
