From Your Newsletter Editor: Ann Overfield
We are reaching the end of another year. I hope it has been a good one for all of you. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving and a Blessed Christmas. Thanks also for my great year as a director and board member. I have enjoyed getting to know all of you. Thank for your help and understanding as I started my directing. I hope this next year will be full of more fun and great friendships. The November special game was to honor all the founders of our club, past and current presidents and all the unsung heroes that help to put everything together. With a club this size there are many unsung heroes. Thanks to you all. From left to right, Caron Peck current president HAPPY THANKSGIVING CHRISTMAS PARTY December 8th is the Club Christmas Party. Members play free. Turkey and Dressing will be furnished. Brings sides and deserts. If you are not a member of ADBC you can join between now and then or on the 8th. Dues are $25.00 a year. SLOW PLAY Failure to finish on time can do a great deal to chase players away from the game and is extremely distressing to waiting players. Bridge is a timed event. If a pair takes more than their share of the allotted time for each round, they are inconveniencing their fellow competitors as well as gaining an unearned advantage over them. When a pair has fallen behind, it is incumbent on them to make up the time lost as quickly as possible. REMEMBER: Slow play is subject to penalty, and the penalties are well earned when slow pairs disrupt the normal progression of the game. This is something we should all think about and take into consideration. EXTRA POINT GAMES MONDAY Night: Special 0-600/Pair Game WEDNESDAY Morning: Special 0-499er Game WEDNESDAY Night: Special 0-299er Game THURSDAY Night: Special 0-749er Game SUNDAY Night: Special Open Game ACBL GAMES Please note the ACBL extra points games to be held in Nov. and Dec. You must be a member of ACBL to play in these games. Instant memberships are available. Pick up a calendar in the front room for the dates of these games. ADBC - HOW IT BEGAN In the 60’s and 70’s if you wanted to play bridge you played in a private game. In 1983 Joan Curl came up with the idea to form a members owned bridge club. Several of the bridge players were asked to invest one or two hundred dollars. This money bought the Curls’ equipment and good will. The ADBC was born the summer of 1983. The charter members all received their investment of money back within a couple of years. The club had a number of locations over the years. We Stayed on N. Collins for over 5 years before moving to our current site. In 1997, we held our first sanctioned Sectional at the Ball Park Inn on N. Collins. Dee Berg was the tournament chairperson and has been chairing these very successful tournaments for the past 10 years. The money earned from these tournaments has sustained the ADBC throughout the years. Glen and Helen are still keeping 10-12 tables of bridge players interested in the game. Way to go you two. Keep them coming in. UP COMING EVENT We all had such a great time with the Eight Is Enough Swiss that we are planning another one in February. So start thinking about getting your teams together for this great event. BOOKS - BOOKS AND MORE BOOKS In case you have not noticed the book case on the back wall is full and there are more bridge books on one of the shelves on the side wall. Thanks to John Willet. He donated several boxes of bridge books to the Club. Look them over and enjoy. MERRY CHRISTMAS![]()
